Fine & Scarce Factory Engraved Remington Rider Repeating Magazine Pocket Pistol, Nickel Plated with Rosewood Grips, .32 Extra Short RF (.32 Protector), mfg. 1871-1888. Joseph Rider's patent magazine pistol was one of the most unusual designs of the era allowing it's user repeating firepower in the form of a small pocket sized derringer. This example is factory embellished and remains in very good original condition overall. The engraving is crisp and sharp throughout and the pistol retains 80%+ bright original nickel finish with the only loss being along the right side of the barrel and around much of the magazine tube. Traces of fire bluing are still visible on the rear hammer surface. The Rosewood grips have an attractive smooth untouched appearance with no chips and just one tight old 1/2" crack barely noticeable along the left forward lower edge. Original screws, blade front sight, and twist-out magazine tube with knurled brass tip and spring loaded plunger. The action is crisp and functions perfectly however the cartridge ejector is missing. The carrier, extractor, and firing pin are all present and properly working. Very good bore with clean sharp rifling throughout and only a few spall spots of superfine surface pitting. A wonderful little gun! Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique firearms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only.
